Clint Eastwood stars as Wes Black, a devoted father and relentless cop teetering on a Tightrope that separates the man he strives to be from the man he fears he is. When Wes sets out to solve a string of brutal sex murders terrorizing New Orleans, the blood-hunt draws him close to the killer and closer still to the realization of the thin line that separates the hunter from the hunted.
To the killer, the only good hooker is a dead one — especially if she has been with Wes. But soon no woman who knows Wes is safe, including those dearest to him. Genevieve Bujold co-stars as the head of the rape-prevention center who demands action on the murders and ends up with more nightmarish action than she expected. Alison Eastwood (Clint's daughter in her screen debut) is Wes's wise-beyond-her-years daughter whose horrifying confrontation with the killer forces Wes to face the shattering implications of his own disturbed sexuality.
Block isn't just a carbon copy of Eastwood's Harry Callahan characterization, though writer-director Richard Tuggle (who penned Eastwood's Escape from Alcatraz) provides plenty of rough, gritty action sure to thrill Dirty Harry fans. In Tightrope Tuggle combines Harry's brand of action with a cutting edge of psychological terror to shape what The New York Times calls "a suspenseful, involving detective drama with one of the screen's most durable tough-guy heroes, doing what he does best and still managing to show something new."
So move over, Dirty Harry, there's a new cop on the scene! He's more complex, more vulnerable, every bit as Eastwood-tough and will still grab you by the collar and make your day!
